Fundraising for a mission trip is a great way to get active and keep involved in your church. Mission trips are mutually beneficial. Both the group receiving the help and the group providing the help come out feeling good about the whole experience.

In the months prior to your mission trip begin to advertise your event with posters and fliers. You can distribute the Church fundraising posters in your local neighborhood, at grocery stores and around your own church. This will help to raise awareness of your mission.

The next step is to write letters about your mission trip. Your letters should be very specific about your mission and that you are asking for fundraising donation to help support the mission. Also be sure to ask each letter recipient to pass the letter along to a friend or relative. It is easy to raise thousands of dollars from a simple letter campaign.

An open meeting or forum where you give a speech with the details of your mission event is also a great way to get parishioners involved in your fundraising. This will allow people to learn what your mission is about and give them an opportunity to ask questions about the mission. This allows people to feel a real part of the event which in turn will help fundraising donations soar.

Advertising in local newspapers, magazines, on radio stations and on TV is another great way to get the word out about your mission. When you advertise you should be very clear about the mission and place a call to action in the ad. Your call to action should encourage people to give time or money to your fundraiser for your mission.

Remember to thank everyone involved in your mission church fundraising. It is key to thank in two ways. First thank volunteers and donors before the mission. Let them know how grateful you are that they were able to help. Second is to thank donors and volunteers after the mission is complete. Give them an update on the mission so that they know their hard work and fundraising money truly went to a good cause.

Fundraising has always been a necessity for churches, youth groups, and non-profit organizations. Most people realize that funding is a tool to do God’s work and the amount of funding earned helps to determine the effectiveness of our giving.

For example if your youth group was going on a mission but there was only enough funds to get half of them to the location then less will be accomplished, or what if you could get everyone there but were not able to bring bibles, food, and that much needed water pump? Fewer people might have their mind open to hearing God’s word.

Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously (2 Corinthians 9:6)

What is your cause?

Determine the single cause for which all of the money will be used. This needs to be something “extra”. A van for the youth group, a new roof or pews for the church, the 2009 South American Mission. This step is absolutely essential, as the cause must create enthusiasm and determination among the group. The greater the cause the more people will want to participate and make it happen.

Having a fundraiser to pay the utilities or to keep the church alive will not work, if the congregation as a whole were behind those efforts they would have already happened and would be an indicator to the over all success you would have in church fundraising.

How much do you need to raise?

Determine the amount of money that will be required in order to accomplish your cause, this will be your goal.

Luke 14:28 For which of you, intending to build a tower, does not sit down first and count the cost, whether he has enough to finish it.

At the start of the fundraising campaign you will want to let everyone know what the goal is and exactly what the fundraiser will pay for. If the fundraiser is to get a new sound/video system for the church write out exactly what is being paid for and how it will benefit the congregation, Sell it!

“This fundraising money will be used to purchase and install:

3 woofermajigers

1 sound board

1 sub processing system

1 amplification system

3 60×90 overhead projection screen

1 3-way projection system

This new sound system will allow our choir and band to be heard crisply and clearly. With our over head projection screens showing the words to songs and hymns everyone will be able to sing along, including new patrons that may not already know the words. Our chorus of joyous voices will raise the roof and lift our spirits! This will also help us to make guest feel welcome and perhaps they will come back and praise with us again… just one more way we can spread God’s word. Additionally if you have you ever missed the first 2 minutes of my sermon while you are looking up the verse you will really appreciate that you will be able to see it on a state of the art overhead screen…….or as the Pastor you could say I am tired of seeing the top of peoples heads for the first two minutes of my sermons”

You must sell it, you must drum up support.

What is your product?

I recommend fundraising discount cards because they are quick, easy and profitable. The church members sell the fundraising cards just like they would sell candy bars or pop corn. They sell for $10 and cost as little as $1.50 each. Supporter can sell 10 - 20 cards. On the front of your fundraising discount card will be your organization’s name, logo, and expiration date. The back will contain twelve (12) to twenty (20) local merchants, each giving a buy one get one free offer or other discount. The cards are valid for one (1) year of continuous use by the bearer.

Since a discount card fundraiser is also a great opportunity for the merchant, most of them will stay with the group for a fundraiser year after year. Some groups actually form waiting lists. Easy Fundraising Cards is great source.

Communicate, communicate, communicate!

Continue to remind people why their effort is so important. Communicate daily with everyone involved in the fundraising effort, let them know how it is going, let them hear success stories, praise the efforts of those producing the greatest results, so other will follow. everyone wants to be recognized for their efforts in a successful cause and want to be part of “the buzz”.

Your church fundraising efforts can produce quick revenue to continue God’s work.

Fundraising discount cards are a great way to get an 50%-105% profit in a fundraiser. They are based on providing for a flat fee a book of discounts to local area merchants. Often times the discount card will be shopping discount cards, pizza discount cards or fast food discount cards. The idea is that they are items that people already use and will find easy to purchase.

Discount cards are small and light weight making it easy for your volunteers to carry them around. This makes for immediate delivery. It is always easier to get a donation or a purchase when you can give the discount cards at the same time as purchase.

The three different types of discount cards vary only slightly;

Shopping discount cards are wallet sized and offer special savings and limited coupons to merchants in your area. They may include hair cuts, dinners, auto motive services or a host of other types of discounts.

Discount pizza cards often times are full of two for one offers or buy a large pizza and receive a medium for free. This type of discount card can be used in the restaurant or order by phone.

The third type of discount card is a fast food discount card. This type offers limited coupons to fast food chains in your area.

The main benefit to fundraising with discount cards is that they are easy to carry and quick to sell. Most households eat pizza, fast food and shop a local merchants. This makes discount cards an easy sell to both your congregation and to families in your community.

If you’re looking for some church fundraiser ideas, here are a dozen or so that are fairly easy to put together. These church fund raisers are low cost and take some effort, but they do a great job of raising much needed funds.

Bake Sale
Bake sales are a great way to get everyone together and strengthen the bond with your church. You can do a typical bake sale fundraiser or a Christmas Cookie box sale where you sell tickets and everyone gets to fill up a box with their choice of cookies.

Yard Sale
Doing a big rummage sale or yard sale in the church parking lot on Saturday morning is a fun way to raise funds. You can get people to donate their items for a general sale, sell tables like a flea market does, or even let people sell things from their trunks for a small fee. Put out a general call for items and let parishioners know that you can send a crew around with a truck for big items from the attic or garage.

Community Cleanup
A great project for a youth group is to do a community cleanup fund raiser. Essentially, your workers get pledges of so much per pound of trash collected and hauled away. This works especially well when the area being cleaned up is a visible eyesore such as a creek bed or illegal roadside dumping area.

Car Wash
The perennially popular car wash fund raiser is a summer staple and for good reason. Church youth groups can always count on it to raise hundreds of dollars for mission trips and other youth ministry needs.

Christmas Ornaments
You can put together a ‘make your own ornaments’ craft class and charge a small fee to each attendee plus make a little extra on supplies. Buy the supplies in bulk in the off-season and schedule yours near the Thanksgiving timeframe. You can also offer Christian-themed ornaments, nativity scenes, decorations, etc. for sale as well.

Easter Lillies
To have these beautiful flowers available for sale s few weeks before Easter, plant your bulbs in starter pots in February. Store them in a low-traffic area and nurture them along with some grow lights. With a cost of only a couple of dollars apiece, it’s a surefire moneymaker.

Gardening Supplies
Another easy way to raise funds in the Spring is to host a garden supplies event in the church parking lot. Work with nurseries, yard services, landscaping companies, and mulch or pine straw distributors. Use lots of roadside signs and publicize it the week before to attract a big crowd.

Wristband Fundraiser
These low-cost silicone bracelets can be ordered in bulk with your slogan of choice for well under a $1. The right color combination and message can create a huge demand. After all, Lance’s Armstrong’s foundation has sold over 80 million LiveStrong bracelets. Consider phrases like Got Faith?, WWJD, PrayStrong, BeStrong, Trust Your Faith, etc.

Poinsettias
These beautiful flowers always sell well around mid-November. Take orders for various types of poinsettias and deliver a few weeks before Christmas. You can also include wreathes and other holiday decorations in your holiday fundraising and make extra profits.

Recycling
Long-term fundraisers that help the environment are also popular. You can recycle printer toner cartridges or even used cell phones and raise a steady flow of cash. It’s all about getting the word out and having lots of convenient donation points.

Pancake Breakfast
A big breakfast is a surefire draw when there’s a good cause behind it. A pancake breakfast fundraiser is easy to do and very low cost. Read the article for five great profit tips and don’t forget to place a big jar labeled ‘donations’ right next to the cash register.

Portrait Day
Everyone loves to have their picture taken and a dress-up portrait day is a great photography fundraiser. Many companies will give you a big share of the revenue and also provide fun costumes for people to where. For example, you could do regular family portraits or offer 1890’s costumes for an old-fashioned feel. To increase attendance, pre-sell appointment certificates offering a free portrait for $10.

So there you have it, a dozen or so church fundraiser ideas. Select one, run with it, and have fun!

by Mike Wilson

Setting up a fund raising event can be a daunting task. There is a lot that goes into making it successful. The best way to get involved is to make a list of ideas and choose the one that fits your church the best.

Setting up a church fundraising event is an important job that needs the best approach for a successful event. The best way to ensure your event will become successful is to advertise the church fundraising campaign and also make it easy for people to give. If people can easily give money, the more likely they will.

After you’ve successfully setup your fund raiser, you can ask for donations through written letters, on your website, by email, or in flyers and newsletters. Make sure to include good instructions on how donations can be made. Contributions could be a weekly offering, monthly withdrawal or a one-time donation, depending on the donor’s choice.

To really speed up the process you could offer your givers the ability to give to the fund raiser using their debit or credit card. This would allow them to easily make a contributions without the hassle of dealing with cash. A lot of people don’t carry cash or check anymore because it is inconvenient. Instead they carry credit and debit cards.

To accept credit card donations all you need to do is have an “Internet Payment Gateway” account. These can be setup very easily and with little to no cost involved. One of the “Internet Processors” that specialize in these types of situations is the DowCommerce gateway. It has a built in recurring billing feature. There is not a setup charge for the Internet Gateway, and the Recurring Billing Option is included at no extra charge to churches and religious organizations. If you have a website you can even allow your members to contribute online or you can sign them up as well. When they contribute online they can decide how much to contribute and how often. It will automatically come out of their debit or credit card account.

How to Increase the Support of your Church Fund Raising Event?

There are a lot of ways to make the public aware of your fund raising event. However, if you want to follow an easy and trusted method, you could collect contributions through the mail or online. While some people are not active members of the church, they can still give for your cause.

If you need extra funds, you can also plan church fund-raising within your community. For instance, you can sell items, hold auctions of food items or coordinate a penny drive. While these ideas can help you raise the funds you need, it could also strengthen the bond among your church members while preparing the event.

Church fund-raising can be a great responsibility. However, with the right idea, plenty of help and a good cause, you’ll enjoy every minute of your fund-raising event.

Church fund raising can be a very tricky venture if you do not have certain components in order. Every year thousands upon thousands of churches and youth groups dive into the world of running a church fund raising campaign. The truth is, most of them mean well, but they are simply not qualified to do so. They could be much more prepared by following a few simple rules.

This article is designed for those brave soles that have been placed in charge of raising money for their church, but really have no clue what to do next.

Church Fund Raising 101

Before you get too worried about how, what or where you will get your church fund raising funds you need to sit down and create a fund raising plan. The first item on your fundraising plan should be to create a theme that matches the cause. By that, I mean you should try to create a theme that will fit well with the reason you need to raise money in the first place.

Once you have a good theme for your church fund raising project then you must find the right people to carry out each responsibility. Too often most churches assign someone to each committee without even asking or seeing if someone else might be better qualified for the duty.

You could conduct some simple personality test to see who has what skill sets. You should be able to find these types of test online or at your local book store. You may also check at the local library. You will probably have some ideas about certain people, but you may be surprised to discover the hidden talents of many others.

Once you have set a theme and gathered the proper information on all your volunteers you can then plan a very successful church fundraising campaign. The only problem is that you may look like a hero and be asked to participate in many more church fund raising campaigns.

Tom wrote a great article so I wanted to share his information with you. Here is another place that has a wealth of information on Church fundraising.

Church fundraising has got to be one of the easiest ways of fundraising that is out there. Everyone is willing to give to the church and is more than willing to help in any way possible. Church fundraising is fun and is a way of getting the whole congregation in the mood to help. Depending on what you decided to have as your fundraising product, it should go over very well.

Whether it is baked goods, crafts, candles, hot suppers served, a quilt sale, fundraising discount cards or one of the many choices that are out there it is sure to be a hit.

Another good idea for a Christian fundraiser is a cookbook. However, this type of church fundraising takes more time and effort, but it is well worth it. Collect all your congregation favorite recipes and get them together. Pick out the amount you want to enter in your cookbook and designate someone in the congregation to copy them off. You can have these pages tied together with pretty ribbons and depending on what time of the year it is you can make your cookbook for that season. This is one fund raising idea that always goes over well.

There is no other fundraiser like a Christian fundraiser. You will get all the support you need in getting your fundraiser together and going over smoothly. The congregation is a wonderful place to find the help you need that goes into getting a church fundraising event together. A Christian fundraiser is like no other where there are so many people pulling for the same cause.

If you choose a hot supper as your church fundraising idea, selling the tickets in advance gives you the money to buy the supplies and you know how many to cook for. Many times the congregation donates the food for this type of Christian fundraiser so that the church can keep all the profits. If your idea for a church fund raiser is a craft sale, everyone will make a few crafts and donate them for the cause and will be there to sell them also. Any Christian congregation enjoys getting together for a fund raiser regardless of what work is involved because they are doing it for their church.

The joy of giving will give you a very profitable Christian fundraiser. Not only from the congregation, but from anyone that happens to come by. If your church fundraising event is well advertised, it should be a big success. Any fund raiser needs to be organized and can be easy or difficult depending on the amount of people you have access to. Just be sure it is clear what each individual is expected to do before you begin.

Church fundraising is fun and effective, but it needs to be done well, and can be hard work.

Peter wrote a great article so I wanted to share his information with you. Here is another place that has a wealth of information on Church fundraising.
